Creating Items

This guide will walk you through the process of creating an item using the NOQ Backend Portal

Step 1: Navigate to the Item Creation Form

The path will differ depending on whether Stock Locations are enabled:

  • If Stock Locations are enabled:
    NOQ Backend Portal ➡️ Products ➡️ Stock Locations ➡️Your Stock Location ➡️ Modifier List tab ➡️ Click + Create Item

  • If Stock Locations are disabled:
    NOQ Backend Portal ➡️ Products ➡️ Item List ➡️ Modifier List tab ➡️ Click + Create Item


Step 2: Fill in the Item Details

Complete the following fields:

  • Item Name (Required): Enter the item’s name.
  • Category: Choose an existing category or create a new one.
  • Tags: Select or create relevant tags for the item.
  • Item SKU: Enter a stock-keeping unit code if required.
  • Has this item got variants?
    • Select Yes or No.
    • If Yes, define the variants (e.g., pint, half pint).
    • Set individual prices, costs, and SKUs for each variant.
    • Click the + button to add each variant.
  • Select Stock Location: Choose where your item will be stocked (if Stock Location is enabled).
  • Item Sell Price (Required): Enter the selling price.
  • Item Purchase Cost: Add the item’s cost price.
  • GP (Gross Profit) and Markup Margin: These are calculated automatically based on your entered prices.
  • Block Item Price: Toggle this on to lock the price in the EPOS app.

Step 3: Item Branding


(Optional) Add:

  • An item description for customer-facing menus.
  • An image to visually represent the item.

Step 4: Item Customisation


Define additional details such as:

  • Tax status.
  • Custom attributes like allergens.
  • Nutritional information if applicable.

Step 5: Stock Management (If Enabled)


  • Select Supplier: Assign a supplier (if set up).
  • Not Needed: Choose this if stock tracking isn’t required.
  • Basic (Countable Units): For individual countable items like cans.
  • Advanced (Linked to Ingredients): For items that require recipes with multiple ingredients and quantities.

Step 6: Save Your Item

Once all details are completed, click Save. The item will now appear in your Master Stocklist or Item List. Repeat this process until you have created all your items.

Now that you have successfully created your base items, consider adding modifiers to enhance your customers' ordering experience. Modifiers enable customers to customize their selections, such as adding extra toppings to a pizza or choosing gluten-free options. This not only improves customer satisfaction but also presents an excellent opportunity for upselling!
