Wi-Fi Profiles Guide

A Wi-Fi profile consists of a collection of preconfigured settings that enable devices to seamlessly connect to a designated Wi-Fi network. This eliminates the need for users to manually choose the network or input the password each time.

Key Features of a Wi-Fi Profile:

  1. Automatic Connection: Once the Wi-Fi profile is created and assigned to a terminal (or group of terminals), those terminals will automatically connect to the network without needing to re-enter credentials.
  2. Predefined Settings: A Wi-Fi profile includes important network details like:
    • SSID (the name of the wireless network)
    • PSK (Pre-Shared Key or Wi-Fi password)
    • Authentication type (security type such as WPA, WPA2, etc.)
  3. Network Management: If you operate in a large location with multiple Wi-Fi networks, you can create and assign different profiles for each network. Devices can automatically connect to the most appropriate or nearest network based on the profile.
  4. Mass Deployment: For businesses with many devices, Wi-Fi profiles make it easier to deploy network settings across all devices without manual configuration on each one.

In summary, Wi-Fi profiles streamline the process of connecting multiple devices to a Wi-Fi network, saving time and reducing the need for manual input across various terminals.

How to Create a Wi-Fi Profile:

  1. Navigate to Backend Portal > Device Management > Profiles then select the Wi-Fi Profiles tab
  2. Click 'Create Wi-Fi Profile' to open the side menu.
  3. Name the profile (e.g., "Bar Wi-Fi").
  4. Select the network’s Authentication Type (usually found on the back of your router).
  5. Enter the SSID (the name of your wireless network).
  6. Input your PSK (Wi-Fi password).
  7. Leave Network Settings on default values.
  8. Click 'Create Wi-Fi Profile' to save the profile.

Your new Wi-Fi Profile will now appear in the list. To assign it to a Store:

  1. Tick the box next to the profile name.
  2. Click 'Actions' > 'Assign to Store'.
  3. Select your Store(s). For setups with multiple Stores sharing one network, you can assign the profile to multiple Stores.
  4. Tick the Default box if the Wi-Fi Profile will be the default profile for that store.

Ensuring Updates Are Applied:

After creating profiles or making changes, verify that the terminal has received the update by following these steps:

  1. On the terminal, click Settings.
  2. Select Configuration and enter your PIN.
  3. Wait for the terminal to auto-update. The status will show "Up to date" when complete.

The more stores you assign at once the longer the process will take. If you're assigning profiles to more than 2-3 stores, please wait for 30-40 seconds for the terminals to update.

Note:
If the terminal doesn’t connect to your Wi-Fi profile, it may be because NOQ previously created a Wi-Fi Profile for your terminal. This needs to be removed before the new profile can be applied. If this happens, please contact support.

FAQ

Why doesn’t my Wi-Fi Profile work?

If your Wi-Fi profile isn’t working, it could be due to a few reasons. Here are common issues and steps to troubleshoot:

1. Pre-existing Wi-Fi Profile Conflict
  • Problem: NOQ may have previously created a Wi-Fi profile for your terminal, and this older profile could be preventing the new one from being applied.
  • Solution: Contact NOQ support to have the old profile removed so the new one can take effect.
2. Profile Not Assigned to the Correct Store
  • Problem: The Wi-Fi profile may not be correctly linked to the Store your terminal is assigned to.
  • Solution: Ensure that your Wi-Fi profile is assigned to the correct Store(s) in Device Management > Profiles > Wi-Fi Profiles.
3. Wi-Fi Settings Not Updated on Terminal
  • Problem: The terminal may not have received the update containing the new Wi-Fi profile.
  • Solution:
    1. On the terminal, go to Settings.
    2. Select Configuration and enter your PIN.
    3. Wait for the terminal to fetch updates. The status should change to "Up to date."
4. Incorrect Network Details
  • Problem: The SSID (Wi-Fi name), PSK (Wi-Fi password), or Authentication Type in your profile may be incorrect.
  • Solution: Double-check that the SSID, password, and authentication type match the actual Wi-Fi network settings. Recreate the profile if necessary.
5. Network Signal or Coverage Issues
  • Problem: The terminal might not be within range of the Wi-Fi network or may have poor signal strength.
  • Solution: Ensure the terminal is within a good range of the Wi-Fi router or access point.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, reaching out to support for further troubleshooting is the next best step.
